tape errors after Solaris upgrade

2007-12-25 10:36:00

Hello Managers,

My problem was this:

>We recently upgraded our SUN server 1000 from Solaris 2.4 to 2.5.1 and are now experiencing some intermittent problems with ufsdumping to our external DAT and 8mm exabyte drives.

> The errors we get (from /var/adm/messages) are:

>May 29 09:41:14 earth unix: WARNING: /io-unit@f,e1200000/sbi@0,0/dma@1,81000/esp@1,80000/st@2,0 (st16):

>May 29 09:41:14 earth unix: Error for Command: mode select Error Level: Fatal

>May 29 09:41:14 earth unix: Requested Block: 0 Error Block: 0

>May 29 09:41:14 earth unix: Vendor: HP Serial Number: 9

>May 29 09:41:14 earth unix: Sense Key: Illegal Request

>May 29 09:41:14 earth unix: ASC: 0x26 (invalid field in param list), ASCQ: 0x0, FRU: 0x0

I only recieved one answer (Bismark Espinoza).

In the end, what I did was to apply patch 103847 for ufsdump and revert to the 2.5.1 version of st.conf. This seemed to do the trick...
