mount information

Can anybody tell me that whenever a network filesystem is mounted, where
the information is stored ? I have seen that it is in /etc/mnttab but
even if I delete the entry in mnttab or by setmnt the information is
still saved somewhere because of which only when the system reboots the
information is lost. please tell me which file keeps the information . I
have seen that that it stores the inode number of that nfs but where it
keeps that I do not know.
