wtmpx problem

'last' command does not show the recent history of user logon's.
However I find that the /var/adm/wtmpx file is getting updated and
currently it is 5141724 bytes.
The problem is reflected in two of the sun servers running 2.8.
My question is,
- Is there a corruption in the wtmpx file. The last result shows till
jan.
- How do I reinitialize the file.
- What is the effect? i mean do i need to restart any proces or restart
the system.
