Tape throughput to remote system

2007-12-25 11:47:00

Thanks to Syd Alsobrook. He pointed me back to the dreaded duplex mismatch

problem which I know we've fixed once already on this system. Looks like

it's come back from the grave to haunt us again.

Back to the patch sites. (sigh).

Subject: Tape throughput to remote system

Hi All,

I've got a pair of E420Rs, 2 CPU, 2GB RAM, Solaris8 which I'm backing up

using Veritas Netbackup. The tape is an L218 autoloader.

On the machine serving the tape drive I'm getting about 4-5MB/s onto the

tape. On the client machine I'm getting about 1.3MB/s.

Network interconnect is 100Mb/s Full duplex with options on hooking up some

extra ports on the QFEs if it will help.

Firstly do these numbers look ok to everyone and secondly is there anything

I can do to boost the throughput on the client

system?

TIA

Joe.
