SED question

I've been RTFMing, but I am truly SED illiterate. Can someone give me a
one-line SED command (or AWK if that is better) to replace all CR/LF in a
file with spaces? We have some 3-4 line files. We need to put all 3-4 lines
into a a single long line to format this data for upload to our database.
