A good review appears in the August Issue of SunExpert Magazine. Maureen

Mckeon compiled a list of the available graphics solutions for SUN and

compatibles. A short summary:

24 bit color adapters:

Apunix Computer Services CPX-24PV and CPX-24SV

   CONNECTWARE Inc. RF1000-32-1, RF1000-HR (24 bit plus 8 bit, 4/8MB respect.)

1,995-$2,995

Evans & Sutherland (HIGH END) Freedom 1000 $18,000-62,000

Parallax Graphics Inc. Power Video Board, MultiVideo Board (both with 3MB),

Xvideo (4MB)

   SUN TurboZX $8,995.00

Hope This helps!

Unfortunately, I don't have that magazine. Anybody have an extra copy

of the August issue that they want to send my way?

I also got these replies:

Heather,

As far as SUN products go:-

In the SS2 there was the GT frame Buffer which is a triple width board

and it works under SunOS 4.1.1 onwards.

In the SS10 there is either the ZX which is accelerated for solids and

3d Vectors or there is the SX which is Accelerated for real time video etc.

The ZX is a double width board and the SX takes up a memory SIMM slot

which then activates the rear built in 13W3 Monitor connector.

I think these only works under Solaris 2.3 onwards

Best Regards,

Steve Butterfield

There is a 24-bit graphics card for the SS/2 and SS/10. The part number

is 501-1845. We sell them with a 120-day warranty, $ 3250.00 for one, $

2995.00 for four or more. Keep in mind, this graphics card is a dual-slot card

consuming two S-bus slots. (Depending on your existing frame buffers, I can

offer some trade-in value). In terms of upgrades, the SPARC 5 allows for a

single slot 24-bit card called an AFX graphics card. The card itself runs

under $1000.00 but you obviously need a SPARC 5 to put it in! Price: depends

on configuration, figure about $ 3500.00 to $ 6,000.00. (Note: you can put a

Cycle 5 UPGRADE board in the SS/2's for under $ 3000.00 depending on

configuration). The SS/20's allow for SX Video RAM to be plugged right into

the motherboard, but again you would have to secure the SS/20.

Hope this is worthwhile information.
