Sun V880 and an L8...

I'm installing a Sun L8 SDLC tape drive onto a V880. I've got
a sun scsi controller that came with the l8... installed
the card in slot 2... cabled up the tape drive... powered it up.
Did a stop-a and probe-scsi-all... The controller and the tape drive
show up just fine.
Did a boot -r.
Problem is my /dev/rmt/0 entries don't get made. I've run devfsadm and
they still aren't there.
This is running under Solaris 8 with the latest patches.
Any help would be appreciated.
