moving machines to another subnet

2007-12-24 18:58:00

I have several Solaris 2.7 NIS clients on an IP subnet. Presently they
are configured to broadcast for NIS server which is on the same subnet. I
need to move several of these clients to another subnet that does not have
an NIS server. Can this be done without running sys-unconfig? I tried
the following:

. edit /etc/hosts to create entry for the NIS server
. edit /var/yp/binding/domain/ypservers to point to the NIS
. edit /etc/defaultrouter to point to the proper gateway on the
new subnet.

However, the client still waits for the NIS server. What did I miss?

Thank you.
