NFS tuning, interoperation w/ Tru64

I'm looking for hints and pointers to increase NFS write performance between
DU/Tru64 4.0F and Solaris 7/8 hosts, particularily writing to DU. All
machines in question are running 100/full duplex, yet there seems to be a
significant performance gap if you compare NFS to e.g. ftp, or even NFS writes
between the Suns.
I'm also interested in tools that can give me hard data to back up
empirical evidence.
Bonus: some rule of thumb settings for DU's nfsconfig, but I realise that
this is really off-topic here :)
