SUMMARY: jumpstart without NIS!!

2007-12-24 19:25:00

Yes!! This is what I hoped, the sysidcfg file can be used on Solaris 2.6
just as it's used for Solaris 8 and the OS of the jumpstart server doesn't
really matter.

My question and answers below:

My Question:
---------------------------------------------
Hello Sun Managers,

I am wondering if it's possible to configure a jumpstart server for Solaris
2.6 to be non-interactive without NIS. I have configured jumpstart for
Solaris 8 and was able to specify timezone, etc.. in the sysidcfg file. Can
this be done with Solaris 2.6 or is NIS required to supply information such
as ip address, subnet mask, timezone, etc..?

Also, can you jumpstart Solaris 2.6 on a Jumpstart Server running on Solaris
8?

I really need to get this stuff sorted out.

Thanks in advance,

Yes, you can do it. It's just like with Solaris 8 except with
fewer options in the sysidcfg, no IPv6 and no security policy.

NIS is not required.

Yes, you can do multiples. Use the respective setup scripts in the Tools
subdirectory for each release.

Yes its possible and sunsolve has doc 0n it essentially you put most of the
answer needed in sysid.conf in the profile.Read about it,
I have not done it.

Hey there!

sysidcfg works in Solaris 2.6. I've used it several times.

The answer to both questions is yes. The only difference in 2.6 from 8 is
that
you can't have ipv6 or security mode stuff in the sysidcfg file.
