Loss of Internet access in going from Solaris7 to Solaris8

Hello!
I am using the same setup files (nsswitch.conf, defaultrouter, hosts,
resolv.conf) in a new install of Solaris8 (March 2000, Rev A), as I used in
Solaris7. I am using a Sparc 5 on a work LAN behind a firewall. With Sol7 I had
complete Internet access through the firewall. With Sol8 I only have
bidirectional email and browser Internet access, and access to hosts inside the
firewall.
I installed the current Sol8 Recommended patches (no install of
109951-01, 108879-05, 110416-02, 110320-01,11071-01,110670-01) but I still have
no ping, ftp, telnet to Internet hosts. The installation of Sol8 was for
"developer" and had no errors except for some missing files needed for the Early
Access applications.
Can you suggest what is different about Sol8 that would limit the
internet access?
Thanks,
Don Parsons,
