What the h... is patch 109888-16?
2007-12-24 23:15:00
Just noticed a funny thing.. I have an sb2k with Solaris 8 02/02
and a recent version of the recommended cluster of patches for Solaris 8.
I was recently looking for the Solaris 8 drivers for my XVR-1000 and I
noticed that some patches were available for Solaris 8 with the tarball.
One of these patches is 109888-16. I had 109888-15 on my system and when I
tried to apply 109888-16, it complained about mismatched checksums. The
funny thing is the following:
On sunsolve, the latest official version of the patch is 109888-15 and is
dated Feb/12/2002:
Patch-ID# 109888-15
Keywords: mc-us3 todds1287 grppm xcalppm libpiclenvd.so.1 SUNW,Sun-Blade-100
Synopsis: SunOS 5.8: platform drivers patch
Date: Feb/12/2002
But in the tarball, I got this patch (not even known as badpatch on
sunsolve):
Patch-ID# 109888-16
Keywords: mc-us3 todds1287 grppm xcalppm libpiclenvd.so.1 SUNW,Sun-Blade-100
Synopsis: SunOS 5.8: platform drivers patch
Date: 23/Jan/02
[...snip...]
Problem Description:
4510426 Need PICL program to increase fan speed for FFB3
(from 109888-15)
4525457 CH+_2.2: system powers off when running cpu-E* tests
[END]
So it looks like 109888-16 was released before 109888-15 but does seem to
include the fixes from 109888-15.. ?
My interest in this patch is that 109888-16 supposedly fixes a fan speed
problem for the XVR-1000 (FFB3), which I have in my sb2k.. I surely don't
want to toast a $3500 graphics card.
I'm pretty lost here,...
If someone has an idea or a comment..
