problems setting up NIS+ server

Dear Managers,

I have quoted below my original question. Unfortunately, the problem

remains unresolved, so we'll probably install Sol. 7 and be done with it.

Many thanks to Rick <Rick.Flower@trw.com>, who pointed out that

I should install the latest patches before attemting configuring the nis+

server. Unfortunately this didn't help, but he made a very good point:

I didn't install any patches on that machine for more than a year.
