Summary: Large File Question

2007-12-24 19:18:00

Many thanks to those who've responded.

Many of you mentioned that Oracle 8.1.6 (32-bit flavour) still do not
support doing export/import to/from files that are more than 2 GB in sizes
-- hence the continuing need for piped splits and compress. 64-bit Oracle
(avail on Solaris 2.7 and 8) may have support for DB export/import on files
greater than 2 GB. Oracle 8.1.6 on Solaris 2.6 however already supports
large database datafiles.

Thanks all.

Solaris 2.6 HW/98
VxVM 3.0.4/VxFS 3.3.3 PatchRev 02
Oracle 8.1.6

Our DBA's assert that Oracle would not be able to do full export to just a
single large file beyond 2 GB --- that is why the need for splits via pipes.
Is this true the fact that Solaris 2.6 already supports files greater than 2
GB?

Thanks
