The winning answer is "nvalias"
As Franczyk Gerald put it:
One can use:
devalias <alias> <long_pathname>
ie:
devalias disk0 /pci at 1f,4000/scsi at 3,1/disk at 0,0
But that will not remain active past the next reboot
To make it stay, use the "nvalias" command:
nvalias disk0 /pci at 1f,4000/scsi at 3,1/disk at 0,0
And then use "nvstore" to lock it into nvram.
Casper Dik explained that scsi at 3 is the internal SCSI
and scsi at 3,1 is the external SCSI bus (yes, we *did*
use the external SCSI bus for these disks :-)
