ioctl(add/insert rule): No such process... error with ipfilter

i had to upgrade my solaris 7 x86 (SunOS 5.7 Generic_106542-16 i86pc i386)
box to the latest version of ipf (3.4.29). when i try to load the rules with
the new ipf i get the following messages:
2:ioctl(add/insert rule): No such process
3:ioctl(add/insert rule): No such process
4:ioctl(add/insert rule): No such process
6:ioctl(add/insert rule): No such process
<snip>
... and so on for all my rules. i use: ipf -Fa -f /pathtoipfrules to load the
rules. can you please give me some advice on how this could be solved ?
