/var/cron/log entries

I get foll. messages in /var/cron/log file :
> temp 18059 c Thu Dec 27 07:03:00 2001
! bad user (temp) Thu Dec 27 07:03:00 2001
< temp 18058 c Thu Dec 27 07:03:00 2001 rc=1
Cron job run by this user fails. I do not know how to interpret the
/var/cron/log file . It says bad user even though this user exists. Can
someone help me in understanding the /var/cron/log format.
